Saratov Region Farmers Harvest First 100,000 Tonnes of Grain

The Saratov Region has passed the first major milestone of its 2026 harvesting campaign. As of 9 July, agricultural producers in the region had harvested 107,900 tonnes of new-season grain.

The average yield reached 27 centners per hectare, equivalent to 2.7 tonnes per hectare. This is approximately one-third higher than during the same period last year. In the latest 24-hour reporting period alone, farmers harvested 58,300 tonnes of grain.

Along with winter wheat, farms in the region have started harvesting winter rye, according to Vasily Kotov, head of the regional agricultural authority.

Harvesting is underway in 17 districts

Harvesting operations are already taking place in 17 districts of the Saratov Region. The largest contributions to the first 100,000 tonnes of the new harvest were made by farmers in the following municipal districts:

• Engels District — 18,800 tonnes;
• Pugachyov District — 13,413 tonnes;
• Krasny Kut District — 11,170 tonnes;
• Dergachi District — 9,572 tonnes;
• Fyodorovka District — 8,674 tonnes.

The area covered by harvesting operations will continue to expand as crops mature in other parts of the region.

Leading districts by crop yield

Engels District currently has the highest average yield at 40 centners per hectare, or 4 tonnes per hectare.

The average yield reached 36 centners per hectare in Sovetsky District and 35 centners per hectare in Kalininsky District.

These figures indicate a strong start to the harvesting campaign. The final results will depend on the pace of fieldwork, weather conditions and crop yields in the remaining districts.

Use of Russian-bred seeds continues to grow

The Saratov Region is also continuing to increase the share of domestically bred seeds used by local agricultural producers.

“In line with the instructions of our President Vladimir Putin, the region’s farmers are increasing the use of Russian-bred seeds every year. This year, 95% of winter crops were planted with domestically bred seeds, including 45% developed in the Saratov Region,” Vasily Kotov said.

The harvesting campaign is continuing across the region. Additional farms will join the work as crops mature, while the total volume of harvested grain will continue to increase.
